What kind of roller cover should I use to paint my walls?

July 29, 2016

They come in white, yellow, orange, pink, green, and some even have lines through them.  They are all different sizes.  They have different fabrics.  Who would of known that buying roller covers would be such a difficult decision?

Truth is - those colors mean nothing - except for the ones with the lines in them - they are the microfiber and, in my opinion, the best ones.

Wherever you purchase paint there should be a knowledgable person to help you select the right tools for the job.  Selecting the proper roller cover will make your job easier and help you achieve the best finish possible.  If for some reason you have problems finding assistance, here are some easy tips to help you select the right roller cover.

1.  Product Data Sheet

This is by far the easiest way to know what roller to buy.  If you know beforehand what paint you are purchasing, lookup the Product Data Sheet (PDS) for that paint found on the company's website.  I have provided a snapshot of what this looks like.  As a professional, I may choose to use something different because I'm aware of how they perform differently but if you are not familiar - just play it safe and use what is recommended.  This will also give you a chance to search sales or bulk savings on the covers you want to purchase.

2.  Facebook

It's literally at your fingertips - just go to your locally trusted Painting Contractors Facebook Page and ask.  I personally have been asked there before and don't mind helping someone else out who is unsure.  Based on you provided details about your project - I can give you my recommendation on what to use and where you can get it.  Serving your community is a lot more than doing work for the people in it - it's about being there for them when they need you.

3.  Professional Paint Store

Go to a store that sells paint and only paint - not a big box store where you can find the same person working in 3 different departments.  Examples of professional paint stores are Sherwin-Williams & PPG Paints.  The people behind the counters are trained in the products they sell and if someone is new - they should be accompanied by someone who has experience.
